A violent incident shocked the city of San Pedro de la Paz, in the Biobío region of Chile, where a 33-year-old woman was shot dead in front of her husband and their 16-year-old daughter after a traffic altercation.

The victim, identified as Macarena, was traveling as a passenger in a white Hyundai driven by her husband on the afternoon of Sunday, August 17.

According to initial reports, a black Chevrolet Captiva SUV was following them aggressively, swerving and dangerously approaching their vehicle.

The episode ended when the occupants of the other car opened fire on the family, repeatedly striking the woman, who died instantly at the scene.

Captain Nadia Hernández of the Sixth Police Precinct in San Pedro de la Paz provided details to the media about how the tragedy occurred.

“This vehicle, by not yielding the right of way, was overtaken by the other vehicle, a station wagon, which then fired a number of shots at the family, tragically striking the passenger,” she stated.

The husband, who was driving, and their daughter, seated in the back, were physically unharmed but taken to a hospital in shock after witnessing the brutal scene.

Felipe Calabrano, prosecutor of the Biobío Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that the case was being treated as a road rage incident with no prior connection between the victims and attackers.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities transported the vehicle of the murdered hispanic woman to count the number of shots fired and gather further evidence.

Police deployed a broad operation in the area to locate those responsible, while the Homicide Brigade of the Investigations Police (PDI) took over the investigation.

“We are awaiting the transfer of the victim’s vehicle to count the number of bullet impacts it received,” explained prosecutor Calabrano.

So far, there have been no arrests, but eyewitness testimony has been collected that could provide key leads, reported El Heraldo de México.

Family of the Murdered Hispanic Woman Demands Justice

The case has provoked a wave of outrage among the victim’s relatives and neighbors, who demand that it not go unpunished. Her aunt, Marlene, told Teletrece news that there was no provocation before the road rage attack.

“The information we have is that this vehicle had been coming from far behind, zigzagging… they simply shot without provocation, without an argument. We have no explanation why. There were no words exchanged against them,” she stated.

She said her niece leaves behind a devastated family and denounced the sense of insecurity in Chile.

“A family has been destroyed. Nowadays criminals have freedom to do whatever, and those of us who work have to live in fear in this society,” she said.

Appeal to President Boric

Macarena’s aunt directed a message to President Gabriel Boric, calling for a tough stance against crime.

“If you are listening to me, now that you are a father, put yourself in the shoes of this father, who at this moment has lost his daughter (…) We want justice, Macarena must have justice. President, take a hard line,” she demanded.

The victim, who worked as an occupational risk prevention technician, was about to receive her own home, a dream cut short by the violent road rage attack.

The case adds to a series of violent incidents in the Biobío region and reignites the debate on security and the need to toughen laws against organized crime and armed attacks, reported El Heraldo de México.
